I’ve loved to invent things ever since I was a little. My favorite was making mud pies into barns — with horses looking over stall doors, snoozing in the grass, foals leaning into their moms, with a dozen human blobs working and riding, cleaning, making hay — all rendered in… mud. It was clumsy of course, but utterly joyful. I always smile when I think of it.
As time went on, I’d see new products appear in catalogs much like things I “invented” years earlier, but never developed. My friends laughed themselves silly at some of my ideas, like…specialized rider’s underwear. They quit laughing once it was in all the big catalogs, selling steadily. Another little invention was a revolving stall corner feeder; many variations of that are now widely available. So, maybe my little ideas weren’t so silly after all…
Finally, I dared to invest every cent I had in just one hopeful invention — the BlanketBag. It was a scary risky downright perilous leap into the unknown. I designed, redesigned and redesigned, got a patent, got to know retailers, and struggled through hundreds of other tasks, never realizing how enormous the job would be for the uninitiated.
All that goes to say: Tuck-m-In® has been one big happy victory, since 1999. My Blanket Bag is now in barns everywhere. There are many knockoffs of my original, but not one works the same for everyday use. My design works much more efficiently, and yes, I can prove that! I have even seen my Blanket Bags in the hallowed show aisles of Olympic trainers. I guess for a modest 23-year business adventure, it doesn’t get much better than that……. Or does it?
I invite you to click around on all my new products to find out! I’m thrilled to offer BRAND NEW CUSTOM BAGS for saddles, saddle pads, bridles and halters, tall boots, brush boxes, hard hats, stall front-catchall storage, trunk covers, and riding clothes – so they stay clean, aired out, and last longer, and the bags themselves are downright good looking. Unique custom options abound, just look and see!
My very own horsey story, because everybody has one: At five years old, I was bareback on a pony at my parents’ place in Minnesota. Went on to the glories of fun shows with egg and spoon, barrels, pole bending, trail. Then on to Arabians – western pleasure, saddle seat, halter. Then hunter/jumper, and my best ever hunter pony, Daddy’s Empty Pockets. (Little wonder that people remember his name to this day.) Then Long Lake Hounds and foxhunting, with my dad Eric Canton a joint master, and father/daughter fun to the max. Today, after much water under the bridge, I was encouraged by a Buck Brannaman clinic to reinvent my own little horse world with my new young Quarter Horse, Togwotee II. Up next, cattle penning, then maybe mounted shooting.. The sky is the limit!
